Service organizations traditionally have three related problems:
- Their membership is stagnant or shrinking
- Much of the community doesn’t know who they are or what they do
- They lack funds to do whatever they do
The RB Sunrise Rotary faced this triple threat…until we took over their public relations efforts on a pro bono basis, and the results were phenomenal. “In six months we got more publicity than we’d had in 10 years, combined,” says former club president Mark Berdan.
Adds immediate past-president Carl Kruse, “Rob Weinberg single-handedly made the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club the most visible and recognized of the sixty clubs in the San Diego, Imperial County Rotary District. His professional skills have resulted in our club's achieving numerous public relations awards.”
Now wrapping up the third year of non-stop publicity, we helped the organization accomplish two things:
- Despite losing 30% of their members due to attrition, net membership is up over 16%.
- Nearly $150,000 (USD) has been raised and returned to or endowed for community and world humanitarian activities.
Their networking has improved, they’re well-represented on a wide range of community organizations, boards and foundations, and they rarely hear “What does Rotary do?” anymore.
Best of all, the club’s strategies regarding marketing, fundraising and community outreach are being imitated by other area Rotary clubs, Kiwanis, Lions, and other service organizations.
